First edition of the work by Zalkind Hourwitz, the only Jew crowned at the same time as Abbé Grégoire and the lawyer Thiéry by the Académie Royale de Metz, which retained only three of the ten memoirs received, with Roederer as rapporteur. The books by Hourwitz (also a guard at the Bibliothèque Royale and author of one of the first French treatises on stenography) and Thiéry are much harder to find than those by Abbé Grégoire.
