*Armand Seguin (1869-1903)
Cormorants flying over the waves. Circa 1892. Etching. 260 x 190. Field 8. Very fine proof printed in black and brown on laid paper. Light foxing and dusting. Soft oblique fold in lower left margin. Full margins. Very rare.

"Armand Séguin engraved two plates of birds flying over the waves. If Richard Field is not mistaken in dating them to 1892, we must assume that Séguin went to Brittany, as he announced in his letter to Eric Forbes-Robertson of December 26, 1891: "J'irai cet été à Pont-Aven et descendrai chez vous..." (cf. Denys Sutton, "Echoes from Pont-Aven", in Apollo, May 1964, p. 406.) It would therefore not be swans as R. Field thought, but rather cormorants." (M. Grivel dir., Gauguin et l'École de Pont-Aven, Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, 1989, n° 63, p. 75).
