Pair of Arita porcelain ikebana sconce vases in the Kakiemon style, Japan, 17th century Baluster-shaped, with a flat back for wall mounting. They were originally fitted with two handles, which have now disappeared. They are glazed in red, green, yellow and blue overglaze, in hues characteristic of the Kakiemon palette. The handles are decorated with birds in bamboo on rocks, surrounded by plum blossoms. One features a peony in bloom on the neck and the other a phoenix with outstretched wings. 19 and 19.5 cm Fels, handles missing, restorations.
