Set including a situla (thạp) and a green patina copper alloy bracelet, Dong Son culture, 1000 BC. - 50 A.D.
This copper alloy vessel, known as a situle (from the Latin situla, "bucket" or "urn") and named thạp in Vietnam, is characterized by its shape and decoration organized in superimposed registers, including here four registers of geometric motifs with pointed circles connected by tangents and a procession of dancers, a decorative vocabulary typical of bronzes from the Đông Sơn culture. These vessels were probably used to store foodstuffs, perhaps liquids, and originally had a convex lid connected by cords or chains to the handles of the vase. A vertical line visible on the vase reveals that it was cast in a two-part mold. The ringed bracelet is molded with a spiral motif on the edges of the open part.
Height: 17 cm; bracelet size: 9 x 6.8 cm
