In-4, half plum chagrin with corners, ribbed spine, red morocco title page, gilt headband. Covers and spine preserved. 286 pp. with 155 original compositions, including 28 hors texte and one etching. Spine unstained, a few scratches, spine ends rubbed. The binding replaces the original historiated publisher's sleeve. Deluxe edition of this first edition, richly illustrated by the author. Robida depicts several Flemish towns and offers a panorama of the region's most emblematic and picturesque monuments. Known for his anticipation and science-fiction novels, in which he describes in detail devices such as televisions, video projectors and videoconferencing, Robida is also renowned for his illustrated monographs on various European countries. Limited edition of 126 copies, this one of 25 on Japon containing three states of the frontispiece and one state of the 155 illustrations on Japon avant la lettre. Chenu-Tournier" bookplate on the flyleaf. A very fine, well-established copy.
