In 5 volumes, In-4 format. Havana half-chagrin, smooth spines, gilt and cold-stamped fillets, gilt fleurons throughout, title in gold lettering.
480; 504; 456; 480; 504 pages, 60 B&W engravings per volume out of text and approx. 92 colored plates (16 in volume 1, 20 in volume 2, 20 in volume 3, 20 in volume 4 and 16 in volume 5), numerous B&W engravings in the text, a map of Paris and its monuments engraved in color on a large fold-out plate in volume 5. Two-column printing.
Overall rubbed, with a few chips and tears in the leather, boards scratched. Some foxing on edges, very marginal foxing and dampening on paper. Tear on the map of Paris, one flyleaf in volume 2.
A fascinating history of Paris and Parisians through the centuries, from the foundation of Lutetia to the end of the 19th century, accompanied by a rich iconography. It is the work of French historian, novelist and heraldist Henri Gourdon, known as Gourdon de Genouillac (1826-1898). Composite set: 1881 edition for volumes 1 and 3; 1886 edition for volumes 2, 4 and 5.
A worn but solid set for this profusely illustrated history of Paris.
