Published in Caen by Le Roy in 1783. In 5 vol. in-8. Full brown basane, spine with faux nerfs decorated with gilt fleurons and tomaison, title in gold lettering on burgundy morocco. Mottled edges. Contemporary binding. XLIV, 225 pp, (2) + 383 pp; 627 pp; 673 pp; 748 pp, engraved bands, printed on 2 columns. Rubbing, 3 missing headpieces, a few wormholes, corners and some cuts bared, seams loose in vol. 1. Few small freckles, a few browned pages and slight wetness in the margins of one volume. Fifth edition of this dictionary, which lists the names of all the men who became famous in history, along with the writings devoted to them and chronological tables. Incomplete set, comprising only Tome 1 (A), 4 (G - J), Tome 6 (M - P), and Tome 8 (S - Z). Ex-libris of Pellisson-Fontanier pasted on the back cover. Uniform set in fairly good condition, with clean interiors.
