Full cherry morocco, spine with false nerves underlined by a gilt fillet, double gilt fillets on the entrenerfs, "E.P." gilt on the boards in a Duseuil-style decoration, interior roulette, red edges. Later binding. LXXVI-564 ; 565 to 1271 pages, some black and white engraved figures in the text. Minor rubbing. First edition, complete in 2 volumes, illustrated with several intaglio figures. In the form of a dictionary, the author presents a complete panorama of France, combining aspects of public life (government, finance, army, commerce, justice, etc.) with those of private life (clothing, food, family, festivals, beliefs, etc.). A superb copy in a fine full morocco binding.
