Louis XVI. Séance tenue par le Roi aux États-Généraux, le 23 juin 1789.
Published in Paris by Baudouin in 1789.
Pink bradel in-8 boards, gilt long title on leather spine. Later binding.
16 pages.
Some light spotting.

Original date edition. This is the text of the very important "royal session" of June 23, 1789, during which Louis XVI, without the presence of Necker, tried to regain control over the initiatives of the deputies of the Estates-General, who had just declared themselves the "National Assembly". Through his speeches and declarations, the king set out a program of reforms that would be taken up by the Monarchists throughout the Revolution and then the Restoration in the 19th century, notably by Louis XVIII.
A copy from the library of Swiss collector and poet Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller, with his bookplate on the flyleaf.

A fine copy of this text, which marks a turning point in the prelude to the French Revolution.
