Paul SIGNAC. Autograph notes; 7pages in pencil on 4 small in-8 leaves extracted from a notebook (one corner of the last leaf torn, affecting a few lines). Notes on happiness and egotism, probably inspired by Signac's favorite author, Stendhal. "Hunting for happiness - a path - logic - the art of reasoning - contract a long habit of right reasoning so that emotion cannot pull you from the accustomed path. - logic is the art of not making mistakes on the road to happiness. [...] Despicable fountain of memory. [...] An egotist who reserves his passions for the flowers in his private chapel. [...] The egotist is an enclosed property where we cultivate [...] he admits more forms of life - he possesses 1 great number of passions - and renews them - he purges them of the vulgarities of current life"... Etc. Attached is a half-page in-4 with a few autograph notes in pencil on painters in Umbria: "Spagna fresco - yellow monks on a green background [...] -- Cathedral - Signorelli - the emaciated St. Jerome".
