Jansenist burgundy morocco, ribbed spine, multiple gilt fillets inside, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved, edged slipcase (Chambolle-Duru). Edition of 295 numbered copies on Marais wove paper, one of the reference works on 19th-century bookbinding. It is illustrated with 10 facsimiles of autographs, including 4 in the frontispiece, 4 facsimiles of the bookbinder's album, 6 tracings of gilding, 283 plates of bindings and 2 plates of portraits. A very fine copy in full Chambolle-Duru binding. Spine very slightly faded, minor rubbing to some nerves. Brown marks on a few leaves in the first volume. Provenance: Bourlon de Rouvre, with bookplate.
