François-Joseph TALMA (1763-1826). L.A.S. "T", Brussels November 11, 1811, to his wife; 1 1/2 pages in-4, address with postmarks and red wax seal (broken).
Beautiful letter about a tour of Belgium.
"Dear friend, I begin here today my performances of Manlius. I intend to play five or six". He is less well than in Amsterdam: "I have a heavy tongue and no appetite. Apparently I need fogs, as turkeys need fogs, to get well. He is ready to buy linen and wants to know what his wife needs: "Is it towels or sheets?" He expects "a very exact list, that it's all neatly arranged in order, so that at a glance you can see what you might be missing." He is concerned about the laundry to be done in Brunoy, and would like "extreme care to be taken, so that the linen is not left to dry unattended, exposing it to theft by workers who come and go. As the weather is bad, the first attic should be cleared to dry the linen. [...] Make sure you do this linen inventory before I get back; you can do mine when I arrive. I've lost a lot of shirts and I don't know how"... He kisses her.
