EGYPT Large mixed court judge's badge, for the administration of Egypt and the Suez Canal. Silver, on a radiant background adorned with a large mantle topped by the royal crown bearing the tables of the law with Arabic inscriptions ("Justice is the prerogative of Royalty"), black enameled (tiny chips), on a radiant star background, hand of justice and toug, branches of oak and laurel leaves and Medjidié decoration. Reverse side with tilting clasp split at the base. Safety hook. Froment meurice" hallmark and boar's head hallmark. 120 x 88 mm - Gross weight: 156 g T.T.B. (small repair to the safety hook). Late 19th century. Established in Egypt in 1875, the Mixed Courts of Cairo, Mansourha and Alexandria (where the Mixed Court of Appeal also sat) had jurisdiction in civil and commercial matters in all disputes between foreigners and Egyptians, or between foreigners of different nationalities. Composed of both Egyptian and foreign judges (appointed by the Egyptian government on the proposal of their governments), these courts were highly influential in Egypt.
