Important porcelain vase in the Green Family style, China, 19th century
Baluster-shaped, decorated with a scene depicting the meeting between Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West, and Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. Xiwangmu appears amid the clouds, accompanied by her attendants and preceded by a phoenix, while the emperor, seated in his palace, receives the goddess who has come to offer him the peaches of immortality. The neck is adorned with scrollwork, stylized friezes, and ruyi heads bordering peony flowers on the flared portion. It is flanked by two handles shaped like two joined sections of bamboo.
