George SAND (1804–1876). Autograph letter signed “G.S.,” [Nohant, September? 1841, to the publisher Charles Perrotin]; 1 page, in-8, bearing her small Gothic monogram (traces of glue on the reverse).

Regarding the preparation of Volume II (Jacques) of the popular edition of her Works published by Perrotin: “I believe it is unnecessary for me to proofread the galley proofs of *Jacques*. This work is one of those I wrote with the greatest care. The proofs were corrected at the time by the great grammarian Gustave Planche. Since then, I have reviewed it again carefully for the second edition, and in the copy I returned to you, there were few words to change. Thus, I believe you will make faster progress by not sending me the proofs. Take a look at these and have your proofreader review them thoroughly for typographical errors and the mistakes that always creep into typesetting. I prefer to reserve all my attention for those of my works that truly need it"...
