BOÎTE À CÉDRAT Espagne, Madrid, 1766. Argent gravé, ciselé et repoussé. Poinçons: Poinçon de Madrid 1766. Poinçon d'orfèvre: Guillermo Ducatel. 9,5 x 16 x 13 cm Poids: 454 g Boîte de forme ovale dont le couvercle ouvre par une charnière. Le couvercle est gravé aux armes de la famille Almeida. L'écusson des Almeida est soutenu par deux lions affrontés et surmonté par un lion tenant une étoile entre ses pattes. Sous le blason, est gravée dans un ruban l'inscription en latin: IACENTEM LENIS IN HOSTEM. Au-dessus des armes, est gravé en hébreu le verset biblique prescrivant l'obligation du cédrat: [Vous prendrez pour vous le premier jour le fruit de l'arbre de la splendeur]. Sous la devise est gravé en caractères latins le nom du propriétaire: Joseph d'Almeida. Joseph d'Almeida, né en 1716 et mort en 1788, exerçait en tant qu'agent de change. An oval box with hinged lid, the cover engraved with the coat of arms of the Almeida family. The escutcheon of the Almeida is supported by 2 facing lions and topped by a lion holding a star in its paws. Beneath is a Latin inscription engraved in a ribbon: IACENTEM LENIS IN HOSTEM. Above the coat of arms engraved in Hebrew is the Biblical verse prescribing the obligation of the etrog: "Ye shall bring the first fruit of your harvest". Beneath the motto is the owner's name engraved in Latin characters: "Joseph d'Almeida, born in 1716 and died in 1788, a practising stockbroker."
