Maxime Dethomas (1867-1929) Portrait of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in profile. Around 1900. Drawing, charcoal, washing and ink spitting on sharply cut vellum, rounded corners,[315 x 243], doubled on vellum[395 x 450]. Signed initials in the lower left corner of the subject. Joint: Costume of Henry VIII for Mr. Battistine, Opera Theatre. Drawing, charcoal and gouache on vellum lined on cardboard[350 x 530]; View of a port. Black stone and spittoon drawing on vellum[490 x 290]; 2 programmes for the theatre of the work, illustrated with lithographs, with strong median folds; an invitation card (gallery inauguration) illustrated with a reproduction. Set of 6 p. This drawing is almost an artistic response to Toulouse-Lautrec's portrait of his friend Maxime Dethomas (Maxime Dethomas at the Opera Ball, 1896, gouache on cardboard, Washington, National Gallery of Art). Dethomas gave many set and costume designs to the Théâtre des Arts, then to the Opéra, the Comédie-Française, the Opéra-Comique, the Trianon-Lyrique (La Belle de Haguenau, 1924) and the Châtelet. Some of his works are kept at the Paris Opera Museum.
