From the Institut Curie: Relief wall map of the Maghreb

To support cancer research

On-line sale

Closing on Thursday, March 16 from 11:00 am

The Institut Curie has been a recognized public utility foundation since 1921. Since its creation by Marie Curie, it has worked on three missions: research, care, and the preservation and transmission of knowledge. This multidisciplinarity, which is at the heart of the foundation's statutes, is the DNA of the Institut Curie.

The plan-relief now on sale welcomed visitors to the Coursaget building located in the heart of the 5th arrondissement. An annex of the Institut Marie Curie, this building was commissioned in 1934 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Service du Nivellement Général de la France. Founded in 1884 by the geophysicist Charles Lallemand, it is in line with the zero level set by Paul Adrien Bourdalouë, taking the average level of the Mediterranean. This plan-relief reflects the main issue of this service, the measurement of the idea of altitude.

The problem of geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) was quickly elucidated by man, while the measurement of altitude was not addressed until much later. This map illustrates the main reliefs of the Maghreb, names the main cities and details the main railroads, pipelines and roads. An extraordinary witness to the development of North Africa during the twentieth century, this plan-relief is now beginning a new chapter in its history. The proceeds of the sale will be donated in full to the Fondation Curie, which has been working for cancer research and treatment since 1909.

The delivery of the lot will take place at theInstitut Curie, (Coursaget building) : 39 bis, rue Gay-Lussac - 75006 Paris. Only by prior appointment: we will send you an email with all the necessary information as soon as your auction slip is paid.
