Photography Books

Photography books are a unique field when it comes to bibliophily.
This department emerged about twenty years ago with the growing interest of printed images by collectors. Ader very early on devoted a department to photography books, with one to two catalogued auctions per year that are followed by collectors and museums from around the world. In addition to the classics of photographic publishing, atypical books and lesser-known editions are also included in our auction calendar including books signed by the artists, books with "tirages de tête", propaganda books, company books, and rare pre-war or 19th century editions. Complete collections are also put up for auction, such as the photographic library of Jean-Pierre and Claudine Sudre.

Among the major lots sold since the creation of the department, the most remarkable lots we have sold were an exceptional collection of books signed by Henri Cartier-Bresson, the first issues of the magazine Camera Work in exceptional condition, rare copies of the USSR under construction, must-haves by Man Ray, Brassaï, Drtikol, and Sudek, books that have shaped history such as "The Americans" by Robert Frank" and "Métal" by Germaine Krull, rare editions of early photography, and a beautiful collection of Japanese books by the greatest masters of the genre.
