Black morocco, flats decorated with a beautiful gilt frame composed of a double fillet and dotted scrolls around a quatrefoil at the corners, richly decorated ribbed spine, red morocco lining decorated with a gilt frame composed of two double fillets and a frieze of quatrefoils, red moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses , cover and spine preserved (Semet & Plumelle). Original edition of this historical novel by Maurice Maindron telling the story of the Marquis de Saint-Cendre in the 16th century. One of the 25 numbered paper copies from Holland. Precious copy in morocco lined with Semet and Plumelle, enriched with a beautiful L.A.S. of the author addressed to Paul Hervieu, dated October 8, 1905 and written on mourning paper. This letter, of 4 pages in-12, was written only 5 days after the death of José-Maria de Hérédia, the author's father-in-law, to whom this novel is dedicated. Maindron tries to reconcile with Hervieu: "The common emotion that held us before the coffin of my beloved father-in-law, is certainly not appeased. It led me to a self-turn. As a result of misunderstandings, perhaps exaggerated and certainly exploited by some, we found ourselves separated, while a budding friendship, where esteem held first place, began to bring us closer. Unfortunately, you did not have time to look at the sword that I had painted with my hand on the copy of St. Ashes that I was sending you.
