BERQUE (Jean) - MARY (André). Tristan. It is the story of Tristan & Isolde's love affair restored in its entirety and newly written by the very scientific poet André Mary, according to the right-wing Gallican poetry & rhetoric. Paris: [at the expense of Jean Berque], 1937. - In-4, 325 x 248: 176 pp., (2 white ff.), 21 plates, printed cover. Ivory vellum, original composition painted with gouache on the plates, smooth spine, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved ( period binding). Edition dedicated to Madame Edmée Maus, illustrated with 21 original etchings out of text in colour by the painter and illustrator Jean BERQUE (1896-1954). Edition of 180 copies signed by the author and the artist at the justification; this is one of 150 numbered copies on Maillol paper. It is enriched with a suite of black etchings and 3 large original watercolours signed that were used for the illustration. Very beautiful copy decorated on the dishes with two original gouaches by Jean Berque, representing respectively a Mediterranean landscape with horsemen and ships, and a landscape with an olive tree and a basket decorated with flowers and fruits.
