[BINDING - CHALMETTE] [blank book]. [Paris:... - Lot 96 - Ader
[BINDING - CHALMETTE] [blank book]. [Paris: maison Chalmette, circa 1930]. - In-4, 270 x 249. Havana morocco, first plate ornamented with a rich decoration consisting of the gilded drawing of an African woman in profile, surrounded by a large frame of gilded and mosaic motifs; second plate decorated with gilded and cold-rolled castors in the frame and gilded quatrefoils at the corners, spine with decorated ribs, lining and endpapers of brown moiré silk, untrimmed (Chalmette). Blank book with a quite sumptuous binding made in the 1930s by the Chalmette firm, leather goods and upholstery located at 17 boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. This binding is decorated on the first cover with the profile bust of a Mangbetu woman from Central Africa. It was most probably made for the colonial exhibition of 1931. A note on flying paper indicates that it would have been made by Patrick Chalmette and decorated after a drawing by the sculptor Émile Robert (1888-1948). Very well preserved copy.
