Alain BANCQUART (born 1934). Autograph musical... - Lot 174 - Ader
Alain BANCQUART (born 1934). Autograph musical manuscript signed, Étude pour 15, [1971]; 42 leaves (pag. 2-43) and 4 pages in-4. Piece for voice and instruments on a poem by Marie-Claire Bancquart, the composer's wife: " La plus maritime la plus pelage la plus ténébreuse "... The first recording was made in March 1971 by an ensemble of soloists from the Orchestre National under the direction of the composer, with the soprano Bernadette Val. The orchestra includes 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, percussionist, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, piano, a technician, and a female voice. A typed note at the head of the manuscript specifies: "In this work the sonority and technique of the string instruments are modified in two different ways: 1. The score is realized in 24 tones (1/4 tone), the distance between the strings is modified (5te + 1/4 tone) and the strings are generally lowered. The result of this tuning is a deep modification of the sound reactions. 2. Contact microphones are attached to these instruments. Their purpose is not so much to amplify as to modify the sound. [The piano is constantly prepared by the percussionist and the brass instruments are tuned 2 by 2 at a distance of 1 /4 tone. The sound structures are derived from those of the poem and develop in parallel with it. The two trajectories come together at the end of the work, the only moment when the text is truly sung." The manuscript is carefully noted in India ink on 24-line tracing paper. On 4 autograph pages (typed at the head of the score), Alain Bancquart gives indications on the percussion of the piano, the tuning of the instruments, their sound, and the arrangement of the orchestra.
