Philippe BOESMANS (born 1936). Autograph... - Lot 195 - Ader
Philippe BOESMANS (born 1936). Autograph musical manuscript, Multiples for 2 pianos & orchestra, 1974; 36 sheets 43 x 31 cm. Orchestral score of this concertante piece for two pianos, premiered in February 1975 in Brussels, as part of the festival Reconnaissance des musiques modernes, by Robert Leuridan and Chantal Bohets, with the RTB Orchestra conducted by Andrzej Markowski. It was published by Jobert in 1975. [WD9]. The work lasts 23 minutes and has 256 bars. The orchestra includes: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, 2 percussionists, harp, piano, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass. "Multiples uses generalized doublings, i.e., the first piano is the double of the second piano and vice-versa, and the instrumental ensemble is presented as the double of both pianos. In fact, the two pianos have a function as a sound source whose proposals are infinitely multiplied by the orchestra" (Valérie Dufour). The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on tracing paper with 31 lines, each bar being numbered. It bears the dedication "to Christian" at the top, and the date "23 November 1974" at the end. Attached is the autograph manuscript of the part for the 2 pianos (20 ff. 34,5 x 27,5 cm) ; and an autograph manuscript of corrections for the second version (35 ff up to bar 243 on 36-line paper 42 x 32 cm), performed on May 24, 1978 in Paris, salle Wagram, by the pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, and the ensemble 2e2m under the direction of Paul Méfano, and published by Jobert in 1978.
