GUITRY (Sacha). The Nightwatchman. Comedy in three acts. Paris : Librairie Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1911. - In-8, 233 x 186 : (4 ff. first blank), 188 pp. (2 ff. last blank), illustrated cover. Garnet half-chagrin with corners, spine gilt, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Ateliers Laurenchet). First edition dedicated to Octave Mirbeau, of this comedy first performed on February 2nd 1911 at the Théâtre Michel in Paris. It is illustrated with a black composition by Sem on the cover. Copy on edition paper, enriched with a letter from the costume designer and set designer Jérôme Bourdin to Jacques Crépineau. He was the one who created the costumes for Sacha Guitry's play in Jean-Laurent Cochet's staging at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens in February 2005. 17 superb original watercolours by Bourdin, mounted on laid paper, representing the different costumes he designed for the play, were added by Jacques Crépineau . Each of these watercolours is captioned but not signed. There is also the invitation that Jacques Crépineau received for the performance of Le Veilleur de Nuit on February 7, 2005 at the Bouffes Parisiens, as well as a beautiful L.A.S. from Octave Mirbeau, dedicatee of the play, mounted at the head, addressed to Paul Hervieu, 1 and a half page in-12, and, mounted on a mitre at the end, the original programme published by the Palais-Royal theatre for the revival of the play on May 29, 1916. A well preserved copy, bound by the Laurenchet workshops . A few minor foxing without seriousness.
