First edition of these beautiful works illustrated in total with two identical frontispieces and 31 copper-engraved plates by Geoffroy after GAVARNI, in first edition. Each text is accompanied by a very beautiful engraved plate after Gavarni showing women in situation with their finery. All these engravings form a true and admirable suite of fashion illustrations. Each volume ends with a text by Count Foelix, one concerning the Mineralogy of Ladies, the other the History of Fashion. A complete copy of the general covers printed in red, and containing the plates coloured at the time and printed on wove paper with the margins cut out in lace. They are not pasted on coloured paper as it is sometimes the case. EXAMPLE OF MARIE LAURENCIN who has affixed her signature on the titles. Spine faded. Hinge of the first plate of the volume of the Parures split on 10 centimeters. Some foxing.
