A delicate sensuality emanates from this young woman seated and bending over to wipe her feet. Her fine, soft face, unbound by her hair in a bun, is turned toward the viewer, inviting him to dive into the quiet intimacy of the model. The young woman, Florence Letessier, first posed for Albert Bartholomé for the figure of a young woman entering the main door of his Monument aux morts in the Père Lachaise cemetery; she later became his second wife in 1901. During this period, the artist, excited by his meeting with his future wife, produced several bathers in different postures and integrated into various settings: in 1899, At the water's edge called Seated Bather, legs folded,in 1900, At the water's edge also called Kneeling Bather, leaning on her hands, on a terrace decorated with reeds, finally, in 1902, Woman coming out of the bath wiping her feet, seated, legs crossed, face smiling and hair falling on both sides of the face and hiding the breasts . In 1899, a photograph of the original plaster of our marble, in the sculptor's studio, was published in the periodical L'Instantané. From this model the artist made a wax, our marble, a polished stone and another pink marble from Asia Minor. Several bronzes executed from a second plaster cast were made by Aurélien Hébrard, some of which were exhibited at the Salon de la Société nationale des Beaux of 1903, at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1907 and at the International Exhibition of 1913 in Ghent.
