*TÖPFFER (Rodolphe). Geneva news by R. Töpffer. Illustrated after the author's drawings. Engravings by Best, Leloir, Hotelin and Regnier. Paris : J.-J. Dubochet et Cie, 1845. - In-8, green percaline with herringbone, boards and spine decorated with special gilt irons signed by Haarhaus, gilt edges. First edition illustrated in the first edition with more than two hundred figures in the text and forty plates out of the text, one of which is a frontispiece, woodcuts by Best, Leloir, Hotelin and Regnier after drawings by Töpffer. It is a collection of short stories that appeared for the first time in 1841. Due to the success of this first edition, the publisher Dubochet proposed to Töpffer to publish an illustrated version. For the second time, after the "Voyages en zigzag", the author became the "artistic director" of the publication, being the only one to decide on the choice of the texts to be illustrated and the number of illustrations. Töpffer's compositions were redrawn by K. Girardet, F. L. Français, H. Pauquet and H. Valentin, which caused, to the great displeasure of the author, some errors of interpretation, even if he recognized that he sometimes provided incomplete sketches, in particular with regard to the faces. Binding well preserved in its edition cardboard, the only one known for this book. Spine and edges of the boards slightly faded, small rubbing of use to the hinges. The interior is in a perfect state of freshness.
