Ancient and great Botchio sculpture This... - Lot 93 - Ader
Ancient and great Botchio sculpture This superb and very old Botchio, undulating with the natural shape of the trunk from which it was carved, is certainly one of the most emblematic works of the inescapable collection of Fon Voodoo sculptures and objects in the Jacques Kerchache collection. It illustrates the cover of the Botchio exhibition catalog at the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle and is also featured in the indispensable L'Art Africain published by Citadelles & Mazenod. Although its attribution as a Fon sculpture is indisputable, the treatment of the eyes and the face as a whole inevitably recall the art of the Nago and Yoruba. One should also note the very beautiful gullying, witness of age, which has remained homogeneous on the back of the skull. Fon, Benin Wood, lichens, erosions and gullying of age, superb patina of use.
