Funeral, manuscript illustration mounted in an album page, Safavid Iran, 16th century Pigments and gold on paper depicting a funeral scene, the coffin of the deceased carried by two men around whom mourners and men are bowed or drying their tears in a handkerchief. In the second shot, several tents, one sheltering a woman at rest separating the scene from the hills where a herd is grazing, watched over by its guardian. Scene cut from a folio of a poetic manuscript and framed with a salmon border speckled with gold, then a wide beige cardboard margin, repeated on the reverse side around a quatrain in Persian nasta'liq in reserve on a gold background framed with blue paper speckled with gold. Total size : 37,7 x 26,7 cm ; painting : 19,5 x 13,4 cm ; calligraphy : 13,8 x 9,4 cm Very light jumps of polychromy on the painting, a hole in the calligraphy, stains, freckles, traces of adhesive on the margins, small retouching. The Funerals, Safavid Iran, Shiraz, 16th century Private collection in Paris from 1975 to 2000 - first part (lots 120 to 173).
