[ENLUMINATION]. [CHOIR BOOK]. Set of 3 ornate initials from a choir book. Square notated music on staves drawn in red of 4 lines. Tempera and ink on parchment. France or Italy (?), late 12th century (?). Initial L, dimensions : 73 x 167 mm ; Initial T, size : 105 x 113 mm; Initial N, dimensions : 65 x 80 mm Good general condition, some traces of glue on the back. These initials have been realized in a monochrome style which reminds the Cistercian manuscripts of the XIIth and XIIIth century and in particular the monochrome styles practiced at Cîteaux and in the affiliated monasteries. The present initials are realized in red with reserved motifs evoking the stencil technique and are embellished with a blue filigree decoration, contrasting with the monochrome initial.
