[Italian Catechism]. In Bologna all' Insegna... - Lot 63 - Ader
[Italian Catechism]. In Bologna all' Insegna di S. Antonio. Con licenza de' Superiori. [Bologna. ca. 1700]. In-8 (20,5 x 14,5 cm). (16) pp. including covers: paper covers with, on the first one, four alphabets at the head, vowels and syllables and Orazione Dominicale, illustrated with vignettes on wood and printed in black and red in a frame. The second includes the numbers from 1 to 5000 (Modo d'imparare a conoscere i Numeri). Modern protective slipcase. Precious Italian catechism booklet including alphabets and syllabary on the first page, in a very elegant two-color typography. All prayers are in Latin, except for the acts of faith and penance and the Five Commandments of the Church, in Italian. The Symbolum Aspostolorum page shows the twelve apostles, on woodcut vignettes, with their names and the prayer dedicated to them. Psalms, Canticles, Hymns and the Principle of the Mass complete the collection which is illustrated with six other woodcuts. The style of the engravings and the address "all' Insegna di S. Antonio" could perhaps allow a slightly earlier dating. It is, in fact, the address of the printer-librarian Ferdinando Pisarri, active in Bologna since the end of the 17th century. Signature of the time of a young Domenico on the title page, which has left a small ink stain at the foot of the second leaf, binding thread renewed.
