Extremely rare first edition of the War Alphabet by Fernand Allard L'olivier, neo-impressionist artist.
Fernand Allard L'olivier, born in 1883 in Tournai, continued his training at the Académie Julian with Jean-Paul Laurens and Jules Adler. From 1910, the exhibitions follow one another: Salon des Indépendants, Salon des artistes français, where he obtained silver and gold medals. He was part of the artistic section at the front during the First World War and was in charge of part of the decorations for the Universal Exhibition in Antwerp in 1930, for which he received the Grand Prix. He made many trips to Africa and accidentally disappeared in the Congo River in 1933.
Twenty-six plates with a large color illustration, close to expressionism, underlined by a large red letter and the word illustrated: Airplane, Barbed wire, Cannon, Flamethrower, Machine gun, Nacelle, Shell, Who lives? Zeppelin.
Unique work for the children realized by the painter.
The Ligue du Souvenir has printed on drawing paper, twenty-six original watercolors, twenty-five copies of luxury, numbered and signed by the author. Copy n° 24 with the large signature in ink of the painter.
In good condition, only the edge of the three flaps of the second plate, enclosing the plates, is missing and without its closing ribbons. Minor foxing at the foot of some plates.
