KONACHEVICH (Vladimir). Azbouka. [Alphabet]. [St.... - Lot 219 - Ader
KONACHEVICH (Vladimir). Azbouka. [Alphabet]. [St. R. Golike and A. Vilborg Publishing House. Petrograd]. 1918. In-4 (28,7 x 23 cm). (40) pp. : cloth binding printed with large red flowers on a blue background (Soviet binding slightly later). Mythical single edition and very first book by Vladimir Konachevitch (1888-1963): an alphabet published in Petrograd in 1918. Painter and draughtsman, it was under the protection of Alexander Benois that the artist came into contact with publishers for children. The very first book he conceived was still under the influence of the "Art World". Published in two forms: in sheets and in album, the body of the work having certainly been printed in larger numbers, one finds some copies bound later, comprising only the thirty-six letters accompanied by the title page with ornate letters, imagined by the artist, illustrated with a floral vignette, and the last sheet with the crown of roses with intermingled letters. The thirty-six color plates, in a double frame, show animals and plants of all kinds, dancers and spinners, feathered negroes... Roundness of the line, delicate luminosity: the virtuoso of the drawing is helped by the know-how of Golike and Vilborg (Knebel's printer), renowned for its luxury editions. The album also contains, differentiated in red, the letters of the old spelling eliminated in 1918. Of the greatest rarity, in perfect condition, in its Russian binding.
