[MAGIC CITY] Album of photographs from 1914 .in-4... - Lot 121 - Ader
[MAGIC CITY] Album of photographs from 1914 .in-4 oblong album, 240 x 315 . Burgundy percaline cardboard of the time. Very rare album of 56 period silver photographs glued on cardboard paper, representing views of the Magic City, the first amusement park in Paris, built by Ernest Cognacq in 1900 between numbers 67 and 91 of the quai d'Orsay and the rue de l'Université. Intended mainly for adults, it included sensational rides, shows, a large dance floor with orchestra and performances by "natives". These are anonymous photographs, taken before the First World War by an official photographer, probably for publicity purposes. Next to the first photograph is the signature Pad, a name that can be found on several postcards of the time representing views of the park, published by Publicitas. The signature "R. Savage" can also be found on the first and sixth sheets. None of the views in this album seem to have been selected for a postcard. They represent the entrance to the park, its attractions, the ballroom filled with dancers but also emptied of all participants, orchestras, etc.. The last 4 photographs represent the park illuminated at night. Perfectly preserved copy. On the first plate is "Magic City 1914" in gold painted letters.
