Half red wedge gilt spine, gilt fillets, decorated spine ribbing, speckled edges ( contemporary binding ). One of the largest and most ambitious publications on Paris, illustrated with 41 woodcut vignettes in the text, including one repeated in the title, and 100 off-text lithographs, including a map of Paris, printed on a tinted background and sometimes in colour. A collective work, it was written by Louis Énault, Édouard Fournier, Eugène de La Gournerie, Mary Lafon, Prosper Mérimée, Viollet Le Duc, etc. and illustrated by Philippe Benoist, Jules David, Guérard, etc. Most of the lithographs were made from photographs. Blunt corners, wear and tear on some caps. Second dish of the second volume stained. The frontispiece and plate 24 in the first volume are unbound and have tears without missing. The frontispiece of the second volume is partly undone. Freckles. Clear wetness in the margin of a few leaves in the second volume.
