18K (750) gold slavery necklace made of 5 oval-shaped chains - Lot 4
18K (750) gold slavery necklace made of 5 oval-shaped chains each decorated with an enamelled flower. French work, punches in use for 1819. Length: about 36,5 cm. Gross weight: 15,5 g The collar slavery, decorated with precious stones, appears in the 18th century in the aristocratic classes, it gains the bourgeoisie at the beginning of the 19th century where it is adorned with fine stones. The high cost of gold explains the delicacy of the jewel, contrasted by its size, its intended "ostentatious" side. The play of the chains with fancy links, the multiplicity of plates are very modular. The ease of the person who offered the jewel was expressed by the number of chains and plates used. Offered as a wedding gift, it seems however that the name "slavery" is only linked to the abundance of chains...
