ALEXIS FALIZE (attributed to - Lot 21
ALEXIS FALIZE (attributed to )Cameo on agate carved with a figure in profile, mounted in 18K (750) gold, the frame adorned with enamelled stylized flowers, embellished with half pearls. Unsigned. Work from the second half of the 19th century. Size : about 5 x 4 cm. Gross weight : 26.1 g (a metal brooch system is attached ). This object reminds the jewels "in the archaeological taste" made by Alexis Falize at the beginning of his career. The principle of the cameo "with the Antique" surrounded by gold pearls and underlined by enamelled reasons, allied to the quality of the realization lead us to suggest a possible attribution. We can also compare our cameo with a very comparable brooch design by Falize (Henri Vever, La bijouterie française au XIXe siècle, Paris, 1908, p. 70. Other drawings in Katherine Purcell, Falize, A dynasty of jewelers, London 1999, p. 53).
