[ CHUCKLES ] LAW] Diploma in law conferred on Antoine François Payen by Henri de Laurentiis [Henri des Laurens, primicier de l'Université d'Avignon] In Latin, document on parchment, remnants of silk lakes, seal missing France, Avignon, 24 May 1645 Dimensions: 170 x 570 mmThe Laurens family was of Piedmontese origin. They arrived in Avignon in the 16th century and devoted themselves to jurisprudence. The most famous member of the family is Jérôme des Laurens (1517-1606). He was already teaching law at the age of 17. He was an auditor and dean of the Tribunal de la Rote. He published in the collection of decisions of the Tribunal de la Rote in Avignon. He was a professor at the University of Avignon and the primiciary in 1550, 1571, 1578 and 1592. His second son, Henri des Laurens (1604-1669) succeeded his father at the Faculty of Law, and auditor at the Tribunal de la Rote.
