ESTIENNE (Charles) - LLOYD (Nicolas). Dictionarium historicum, geographicum, poeticum. Oxford: G. H(all), G. D(owning); London: Gu. Wells, Rob. Scott, 1671. - In-folio, 300 x 188: (1 f.), pp. 5-8, 830 pp., (1 f. blank). Red morocco, triple gilt fillet in the frame and gilt arms in the centre on the covers, spine ribbed with the crowned JBC numeral, speckled edges (contemporary binding). First edition published in 1670, with a relay title dated 1671, of this re-edition of the historical dictionary of Charles Estienne (1504-1564), entirely revised, enlarged and updated by the biographer, lexicographer and historian Nicolas Lloyd (1630-1680). The second page, apparently deliberately removed at the time of binding, which should contain the epistle, is missing. Some stains and epidermis at the binding. Rubbing at the lower cover. One of the last owners glued on the second white guard a bookseller's notice and a handwritten note on the provenance of the copy. Scattered freckles. Provenance : Jean Baptiste Colbert, with his coat of arms and his number on the binding, as well as his ex-libris on the title. - Chaussard, with handwritten bookplate on the title. The note added next to the title assumes that it is the writer Pierre-
