Long-grain red morocco, cold rolled and framed with gilt fillet on the covers, gilt coat of arms in the centre, title and ex-dono in gilt letters on the first cover, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (period binding). Quérard, Les Supercheries littéraires dévo dévoilées, III, 105, very rare original edition, published in June 1828, of this dramatic play by Marie de La Fresnaye, published under the pseudonym Philarmos . COPY OFFERED TO KING CHARLES X, BOUND TO HIS COAT OF ARMS. On the first plate, in addition to the coat of arms, the title and the ex-dono in gilded letters: "Offert à Sa Majesté par Arrighi" (Offered to His Majesty by Arrighi). The author has used a false male name here and has consecutively had the title page or her other pseudonym Philarmos removed, to replace it with a leaflet bearing this beautiful autograph dedication: To the King, Sire , I dare to take the respectful liberty, to put before Your Majesty's eyes, the magnanimous devotion of Missolonghi, which has produced such a vivid and profound sensation throughout Europe, that the memory is imperishable . I have tried to retrace this prodigious event in the piece which I have the honour of addressing to Your Majesty, whose lights and beautiful soul will be able to appreciate such a great character, hoping from yours, which is noble and good (like that of Charles V), a little indulgence for this work. I have the honor to be with the deepest respect, Sire, of Your Majesty, the most humble and most obedient servant ArrighiParis , August 6, 1828 Rue d'Enfer St Michel n° 7 faub . St Germai
