PHILIPPE (Charles-Louis). Croquignole. [Paris:... - Lot 92 - Ader
PHILIPPE (Charles-Louis). Croquignole. [Paris: Eugène Fasquelle], 1906. - Proofs corrected in-8, in sheets. Precious set of 3 corrected proofs of the novel by Charles-Louis Philippe first published in 1906 by Eugène Fasquelle, telling the life of a small administrative employee. We find here a complete proof of the novel composed of 23 notebooks of 8 sheets plus one single sheet. Each notebook bears the stamp of the printer Renouard with the date of dispatch of October 8, 1906 for the first 3, October 10 for the next 3, October 12 for notebooks 7 to 15, and October 15 for the others. There are very few corrections, only in booklets 6 and 17 and the last page. This complete set is accompanied by another incomplete set, but with very many autograph corrections by the author as well as the printer's notes in blue. It contains the first 7 booklets, 3 sheets from booklet 15 and booklets 16 to 23 plus the last sheet containing the end of the text. This set bears the same stamps as the previous one, with the same dates. Notebooks 16 to 23 and the last page also bear the indication "Returned October 23, 1906". Finally, there is the proof of a fragment of the first part of the novel, in preparation for its publication in the magazine L'Ermitage, consisting of 6 sheets in-8, with numerous autograph corrections by the author. The pages are numbered from 321 to 332, and the three proofs were printed on poor quality paper, which has turned yellow over time and shows tears . The whole is kept in a folder of some kind and very damaged.
