[Jean-François Leriget de LA FAYE (1674-1731) diplomat and p - Lot 274
[Jean-François Leriget de LA FAYE (1674-1731) diplomat and poet, of the Académie française, châtelain of Condé-en-Brie]. Set of manuscripts and documents from his archives. Important collection of manuscripts and documents from his archives. Some drafts appear to be autographs, and some pieces may be annotated by him. We can only give here a summary state of them. A large manuscript volume in folio, carefully written by a copyist, in all 258 numbered folios (fol. 1-9 are missing), containing various literary pieces, often of gallant inspiration, mostly in verse but also in prose, dedicated to important persons, or to ladies whose names may be masked. A few pieces bear a pencil reference to a publication in the margin. The dates indicated range from 1676 to 1717, the chronological order not being respected. There are some epistles (to the president of Mesmes, to M. de Moncourt, to the count of Pontchartrain, to Caumartin, intendant of finance, to the knight of Saint-Pierre, to the duke of Humières, to the knight of Luynes, to the duke of Aumont, to Mme de Saint-Sulpice, to the count of Medavy, to the duke of Noailles, etc.).), letters in verse or prose (notably to Mme d'H......), an idyll (La Fortune), tales in verse (La Fille violée, Le Tonnerre), a "Nouvelle Portuguaise", elegies (1676-1679), an ode (Sur la campagne de 1697), epithalams , fables, etc. About a hundred manuscripts and pieces on loose sheets: poems, songs, pieces in verse or prose, some in corrected drafts, others in copies, various notes, etc., with a note stating: "The late M. de La Faye Poesie et Litterature, this 13 April 1735". An incomplete manuscript of the Philippiques is followed by epigrams on the Regent, Cardinal Dubois, etc.
