CARCO (Francis). Set of first editions of Francis Carco : - L'Ami des filles... ou Chas-Laborde commenté par Francis Carco. Paris : [Ronald Davis], 1921. - In-8, 264 x 191 : 26 pp, (3 ff.), illustrated cover. Dark blue half-chagrin, spine ribbed, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (Ad. Lavaux). First edition illustrated with 10 black compositions by Chas-Laborde. Copy on pure rag paper, justified as "service copy n° 00", enriched with two color compositions not retained and a suite of color illustrations. It also includes on the false title a self-portrait of the author in blue pencil, who has represented himself smoking in profile, and on the title a letter addressed to Pierre Laville: for his friend Pierre Laville, most cordially F. Carco. Some slight wear to the spine. - The hunted man. Novel. Paris : Albin Michel, [1922]. - In-8, 189 x 127 : 246 pp, (1 blank page), printed cover. Half burgundy morocco bradel, smooth spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (Stroobants). First edition of one of the best novels of the author, dedicated to Paul Bourget. It appeared in the collection "Le Roman littéraire" directed by Henri de Régnier. One of 80 numbered copies on Hollande paper (n° 37). Good copy, enriched with a business card from Francis Carco. - Ces messieurs-dames... or Dignimont commented by Francis Carco. Paris, 1926. - In-8, 275 x 190 : 29 pp, (2 ff.), 2 plates, illustrated cover. Dark green half-maroquin, spine gilt, untrimmed, cover preserved (period binding). First edition printed at only 178 copies, illustrated with 13 black compositions by Dignimont, including 2 hors texte. One of 137 copies on Lafuma phototype, this one being one of 25 on this paper specially printed for the author's friends (n° g). It is enriched with a suite of illustrations in colour and this letter addressed to Théo Heymann: to M. Théo Heymann, // with my deepest // sympathy // F. CarcoAn invitation card for a gala, addressed to Dignimont, on which the latter has written in his hand that he will not be able to attend, is attached . Rubbing on the back. It is illustrated with 6 original etchings outside the text by Pierre Falké. One of 1200 copies on Montgolfier vellum. It bears the number 112 whereas these copies should normally be numbered from 201 to 1400. copy enriched with this autograph letter from the author: to // Theo Heymann // with my // feelings, but // THE TRUE ones of TRUE... // friendship // F. CarcoAt the same time, an autograph letter signed by Pierre Falké of one page in-12, not dated . Some wear and tear on the back. - Prisons for women. Garnet half-maroquin with corners, gilt fillets, spine ribbed, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine retained (modern binding). First edition. One of 557 numbered copies on Alfa paper (n° 317). COPY WITH 5 VERY BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL WATERCOLOURS BY ALBERT MORAND, 2 IN BLACK AND 3 IN COLOUR, BOUND OUT OF THE TEXT. Four of the 5 drawings are signed. They represent portraits of popular men and women. Albert Morand is presented in the Benezit as an interior painter of the 19th-20th century, associated with the Salon National des Beaux-Arts de Paris from 1896. He illustrated several works including the Histoire de la prison de Saint Lazare du Moyen âge à nos jours by Léon Bizard and Jane Chapon (1925) and La Chanson des gueux by Richepin (1927). Also bound at the top is an autograph card signed by Francis Carco, 2 pages in-16 on the letterhead of La Planque à L'Isle-Adam, dated September 4, 1948. It is addressed to his "dear old man", a certain Jean, a contributor to Crapouillot, most likely Jean Galtier-Boissière. Spine faded. - Bewitchment of Paris. Illustrated with 112 photographs by René-Jacques. Paris : Grasset, [1938]. - In-8, paperback. First edition. Tears to the cover. Spine covered with white paper.
