DUHAMEL DU MONCEAU (Henri Louis). Treatise on trees and shrubs grown in France in the open ground. Second Edition considerably increased. Paris: Didot aîné, Michel, Lamy, [1800-1806]. - 3 volumes in-folio, 397 x 254 : title-frontispice, (2 ff.), 4, 80 pp. pp. 77bis-80bis, pp. 77ter-78ter, pp. (81)-264, iv pp., 57 plates (out of 60) ; 244 pp., v pp., 71 plates (out of 72) ; 164 pp. (of 234), 38 plates (of 60). Dark blue half-basane, smooth spine decorated (binding circa 1830). New edition dedicated to Madame Bonaparte, published by Charles François Brisseau de Mirbel (1776-1854) and considerably enlarged by the latter, Jean Henri Jaume Saint-Hilaire (1772-1845), Abbé Jean Louis Marie Poiret (1755-1834) and Veillard . The entire publication appeared in installments between 1800 and 1812, forming a total of 7 volumes. It is characterized by its rich illustration made up of several tens of plates engraved according to the drawings of the painter, draftsman and lithographer Pierre-Joseph REDOUTÉ (1759-1840). This copy is composed only of the first two volumes and part of the third. The first volume includes a title-frontispiece engraved by Pillement and Née after Percier and Thibaud, and 57 plates out of 60. The plates 12, 31 and 32 are missing. The second volume includes 71 of the 72 plates required. Plate 68 is missing as well as the false title and the title. The next volume is incomplete from pages 165 to 234 and includes only 38 plates. Also missing are the false title and the title, as well as plates 27bis, 28, 31 and 32. Copy on large paper, with the plates in colour . It comes from the library of the Marquis of Kerwarts, whose signature appears at the top of the first pages of the text. Some wear to the spines, spotting to the head cover of the third volume. The two leaves of quires 37 and 39 in the first volume are printed on a fine paper slightly bluish, probably from the ordinary edition. Some scattered foxing.
