Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical... - Lot 303 - Ader
Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical manuscript signed, Le Mariage sous la mer, 1961-1990; [1]-108 leaves 35.5 x 27 cm (some cracks repaired with tape). Orchestral score of this radio story turned chamber opera. [CCP50-50A, pp. 321-325] In 1961 Ohana composed music for the Histoire véridique de Jacotin qui épousa la sirène des océans, to a text adapted by Alain Trutat from a tale by Camilo José Cela, recorded under the direction of Daniel Chabrun, which won the 1961 Prix Italia. In 1990, he transformed it into a "chamber opera for children in a prologue and three acts", which was premiered on April 18, 1991 at the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt, by students of the CNR under the direction of Yves Lestang. This is the story of the sailor Yananick who ends up getting married under the sea to the Siren. The ensemble includes five soloists, two narrators, a children's choir, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, 3 percussionists, zither, piano, celesta, 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass. The manuscript is carefully noted in Indian ink on tracing paper, mainly 24 lines, with corrections by scratching; this 1990 version is elaborated from the 1961 version, with a page 0 added at the top (dated 1990), and 3 pages redone (52, 105, 106). The last page is signed and dated : " Maurice Ohana 3 avril/10 juin 1961 Paris ". It is divided as follows: Prologue (p. 1-29), Act I (29-66), Act II (67-86), Interlude (87-94), III (94-108).
