Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical... - Lot 305 - Ader
Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical manuscript signed, Sibylle, 1968; [3]-19 sheets 26 x 35 cm. For soprano voice, percussion and tape. First performance on May 5, 1970 at the Atelier de Création Radiophonique by the soprano Isabel Garcisanz (to whom the work is dedicated) and the percussionist Bernard Balet, the magnetic tape having been produced by Ohana, assisted by Bernard Leroux and Geneviève N'Guyen (Inédits ORTF/Barclay recording 1971). [CCP66, p. 360-363] "An adventure through the female voice, through time, this work, composed like a stained glass window, calls on two performers, a soprano and a percussionist. In turn mythical, familiar, sophisticated or prophetic, the voice of the oracle seems to emerge from the night of time, from the streets of a nocturnal metropolis, or from a delirious tropical forest. The vocal range from tenderness to sarcasm, from the shouted or whispered word to the fury of singing blossoms into a contrapuntal construction. The percussion becomes voice and the voice percussion, exchanging their timbres until they melt into the torrent of a magnetic tape. Here the fire mingles with the percussion and the cries, grows and dies out in a landscape of ashes at the foot of a final held note where the voice of a star survives. (Maurice Ohana) The manuscript is carefully noted in Indian ink on oblong tracing paper, with scratch corrections; it is signed and dated at the end: 'MOhana Paris III-VI 1968'. 3 introductory sheets give the dedication, the mention of the first audition, the nomenclature and the arrangement of the instruments, the duration ("17 minutes approx."), and "Notes for the performance".
