Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph music... - Lot 306 - Ader
Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph music manuscript signed, Cris for 12 mixed voices a capella, 1968; title+43 leaves 38 x 27 cm. Choral work commissioned by Marcel Couraud for the Solistes des Chœurs de l'ORTF, who are the dedicatees and who premiered it on February 1, 1969 in Berlin (Erato recording 1969). [CCP67, p. 363-368] "Cris is a masterly synthesis of all Maurice Ohana's past research on the possibilities of the human voice... Untempered sounds, phonics of instrumental essence, extra-European folklore, the cries of human crowds, but also of wild animals constitute, among other things, the sound material from which the composer has freely drawn. [The score allows the performers a certain amount of freedom, in a limited random sense, a freedom intended solely to stimulate their imagination and the spontaneity of their expression. Cris, which makes extensive use of thirds of the usual semitones, consists of five uninterrupted sung parts. (Harry Halbreich). The five parts are: I Generic; II Delirious; III Debla; IV Memorial 44; V Slogans. The manuscript is carefully noted in India ink on tracing paper, signed at the end with the monogram and dated "20 XI 68 11 I 69." A facsimile print is attached.
