Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical... - Lot 307 - Ader
Maurice OHANA (1913-1992). Autograph musical manuscript signed, Sorôn-Ngô, [1970-1971] ; [1]-25 leaves 37 x 26.5 cm. Piece for two pianos, composed for Geneviève Joy and Jacqueline Robin-Bonneau, who are the dedicatees, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their piano duo; they gave the first performance of it during their anniversary concert on December 17, 1970, at the Salle Gaveau; Ohana then continued and completed his work, which was given by the dedicatees at the Aix-en-Provence Festival on July 22, 1971. [CCP69, p. 372-375] "The ending 'ngô' is found in a certain number of words designating dances of African origin, sometimes also in the names of instruments accompanying these dances. Such are, in the popular Andalusian art, the Tango, the Zorongo, the Fandango, as well as the Bongo, an instrument often used in our percussion. This term "ngô" seems, moreover, to characterize incantatory dances coming from ancient tribal ceremonies." (M. Ohana). The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on tracing paper. An introductory sheet gives the dedication, the duration (about 20 minutes 30), and performance notes.
