Manuel ROSENTHAL (1904-2003). 2 autograph music manuscripts, Trois Burlesques for mixed choir and orchestra, 1941. Two versions of these choruses, with piano, and with orchestra. They were composed at La Madrague (Marseille) in August 1941 (the following dates are on the piano score), and dedicated to the Chanteurs de Lyon. I Stances à une demoiselle qui avait les manches de sa chemise dérourées et sales, poetry by Vincent Voiture (1597-1648): 'Vous qui tenez incessamment cent amants dans votre manche'..., Tempo di minuetto moderato, 30 August; II Sonnet sur laideur de la bouche, Isaac de Bensérade (1613-1691): "Mouth to which the ugly offering is appropriate"..., Moderato, August 29; III Tableau de Paris à cinq heures du matin, Marc-Antoine Désaugiers (1772-1827): "L'ombre s'évapore"..., Tempo tranquillo, August 28. Choir and piano. 4-5-16 pages on 24-line paper bi-fold 35 x 27 cm in titled folder; scratch and strikethrough corrections (including 8 bars crossed out in III). Choir and orchestra. 11-11-54 pages of 32-line paper 34.5 x 27 cm, hardback unbleached cloth. The orchestra includes 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, tenor trombone, timpani, drums (2), celesta and glockenspiel, and strings; the choristers (40-80). Each piece is dated La Madrague in August-September 1941: I 31 August, II 3 September, III La Madrague Besançon 28 September.
